The Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS) prepares learners in the Pharmacy Technician program to pursue the career of pharmacy technician and to practice safely in a community or hospital while adhering to the scope of practice for pharmacy technicians. The Pharmacy Technician program’s mission is to utilize harmonious, comprehensive and specialized training to empower our learners with the knowledge, skills and attitude required to demonstrate the Professional Competencies for Canadian Pharmacy Technicians at Entry to Practice.  Our Pharmacy Technician program is fully accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs, and learning outcomes meet the entry-to-practice competency requirements of the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities.

What You’ll Be Doing 
 
The successful candidate will teach students in the Pharmacy Technician program within the School of Applied Health in FAHCS.  In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to promoting the program, curriculum development and continuous program improvement, program reviews, Virtual Reality integration, representing the program across different strategic initiatives within Sheridan, and other strategic initiatives while maintaining the delivery of a high-quality program. The position offers flexibility and independence while providing opportunities for stimulating exchanges with team members and students.   

Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to a learning-centred environment, where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to Sheridan, Faculty and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies. Faculty ensure students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques, through providing individual tutoring, academic counselling and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses.  
 
Specific Responsibilities include: 

While adhering and in full compliance with regulations and standards applicable to the Pharmacy Technician program:
  • Developing and revising course curriculum based on best practice and trends and feedback from students, advisory committee, community and industry partners, professional associations, regulatory and accreditation bodies 
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs against applicable regulations and standards
  • Creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for students, both in the classroom and online, incorporating the use if educational technologies and principles of universal design for learning (UDL)
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles 
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process 
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students that identifies successes and encourages growth
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques; providing individual tutoring and academic counselling; and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses
  • Working with students from diverse educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds
  • Model professional behaviours at all times, and hold students accountable for their behaviours including adherence to the policies and standards of Sheridan College
  • Collaborate with colleagues and team in a team environment
  • Participate in program quality assurance activities, including program review and accreditation process

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications: 
  • Pharmacy Technician Diploma, along with Master’s degree in Adult Education, Applied Health Sciences, or a related field, or Doctor of Pharmacy degree 
  • 2 years of relevant practical and professional experience working in a healthcare or higher education environment
  • Licensure with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) or a Part A Registered Pharmacist (RPh) 
  • Should have a strategy in place to remain current and actively work in practice while teaching
  • Should demonstrate engagement in ongoing and relevant professional development
  • Expertise in hospital pharmacy and sterile compounding practices an asset
  • Applicants will need to submit a 250-word (max) letter, along with application, to demonstrate their commitment to pedagogical excellence in higher education

Campus Location: Davis (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus).  This position is currently working on-campus.

Salary Range: $67,893 - $117,697
