Professor, Honours Bachelor of Craft & Design (Textiles)

Sheridan is looking for an outstanding individual to join our faculty team to teach in our Honours Bachelor of Craft and Design (Textiles) program. The successful candidate will have responsibilities for shared studio/resource management, curriculum review and industry liaison among others. The candidate will foster and encourage experimentation and exploration of the fibre medium. Faculty ensure students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques, through providing individual tutoring, academic counselling and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses.

Working in our Textiles Studio the candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach a range of traditional and contemporary techniques and methods. These include: printing, weaving, off-loom techniques, digital design and sewing. The candidate should bring to the position experience working in industry and experience in teaching at the post-secondary level. The position requires collaborative, team-based skills as well as strong leadership skills.


What You’ll be Doing
  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs
  • Creating an effective environment for applied learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and learning styles
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles
  • Supervising the production of exhibitions related to studio curriculum and program events
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a related field of study. PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of five years related professional experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post secondary level.
  • Professional affiliations with craft societies/councils are considered additional assets.
  • An ongoing practice of personal work and exhibitions.

Hours: Professors may teach between the hours of 8:00am to 10:00pm
Start Date: August 22, 2022
Salary Range: $67,221 - $116,532 (Based on relevant educational qualifications and experience)
