Professor, Creativity and Innovation

Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to College, Faculty, and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies. Within this context of inspiring innovation and excellence, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS) is currently seeking a full-time Professor of Creativity and Innovation. At the forefront of Canadian creativity education and applied research, FHASS offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Creativity and Creative Problem-Solving, elective courses in creative thinking, and will soon launch a Graduate Certificate in Applied Creativity and Innovation.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in one of the following branches of Innovation: Innovation and Sustainability; Change Management; Organizational Psychology; Social Innovation; Organizational or Educational Leadership; Anti-oppression or related discipline, with a focus on creativity (PhD preferred)
  • Scholarly knowledge in the field of Creativity Studies, creative thinking and creative problem-solving is required (i.e. research and/or teaching that directly thematizes creativity and creative self-efficacy as a distinct phenomenon and learnable skill) 
  • Solid network of contacts and experience building partnerships and facilitating creative innovations with community organizations, public bodies, and private industries 
  • Demonstrable ability to effectively facilitate learning with a broad range of students
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment
The following are considered assets:
  • Experience with a recognized creative problem-solving methodology and a solid interdisciplinary bent in the candidate’s field of study
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct applied research and successful experience with grant application 
  • Experience with integrating real-world problems, clients, or practica into the classroom, or Problem-Based Interdisciplinary Learning
  • Experience with online curriculum design 
  • Knowledge of global and cross-cultural approaches to creativity 

What You’ll be Doing
  • Designing and maintaining program and course curricula to ensure they are current, relevant and reflective of best practices within the Undergraduate Certificate in Creativity and Creative Problem-Solving and the new Graduate Certificate in Creativity and Innovation. Courses may also include others in the elective Breadth and General Education curriculum in the candidate’s area of expertise. 
  • Building networks with community, public, and private organizations to expand experiential learning and applied research opportunities for students and faculty. 
  • Defining, evaluating and validating applied learning outcomes for courses and programs.
  • Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles.
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process.
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques. Providing individual tutoring and academic counselling and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses.

Faculty: Humanities and Social Sciences
Campus Location: Trafalgar (May be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) during normal operations. The position is currently a hybrid of in-person and remote delivery.

Hours: Professors may teach between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00pm 
Salary Range: $67,221 - $116,532 (based on relevant educational qualifications and experience)
Start Date: August 2022
