DUTIES: Northern College is seeking a qualified professional to teach a variety of courses in the programs of Addiction & Mental Health Worker and Social Service Worker.

As part of teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to act as an academic advisor to students in the program, participate as a leader and effective team member working in groups at the college, create a positive teaching and learning environment, using a variety of strategies and materials in the multi-modal delivery of courses. The incumbent should embody a commitment to student success and professional development and demonstrate capacity for leadership in a multi-cultural organization. In addition, the successful candidate must ensure currency and relevance of the teaching material and assessment techniques, must participate in recruitment and program promotion initiatives, and participate in professional development activities at Northern College relevant to his/her own needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a two (2) year diploma in the field of Drug and Alcohol Counsellor or Addiction and Mental Health. A Social Service Work diploma with an Addictions Counsellor graduate certificate will also be considered;
Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in an agency or organization that works directly in the Addictions field is required. These five (5) years of experience must have been accrued in the last ten (10) years to ensure that learning and practice represents the most current theory and strategy for addressing addiction related issues.
Master of Social Work degree (asset);
Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (asset);
Teaching and/or training experience with evidence of demonstrated application of adult and distance learning principles, as well as teaching/assessment methodologies, curriculum design and development (asset);
Teaching experience using a variety of modes of delivery (video, web-based, etc.) and methodologies (asset); and
Self-motivated problem solver with evidence of exemplary communication, interpersonal, teamwork and computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite);.
A combination of relevant education and relevant experience may be considered.

The successful candidate may be required to provide a criminal reference check.
