DUTIES:

Northern College is seeking a qualified professional to teach a variety of courses in the Veterinary Sciences programs. The incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of theoretical and practical courses and will be required to teach courses, which may include introductory and advanced anatomy and physiology and subjects related to animal health and care. The incumbent will:

• provide leadership for the cluster of Veterinary Sciences programs and be a key contributor to the accreditation and compliance processes associated with organizations such as the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO);
• help support the college’s ambitions in veterinary-related practical Applied Research, and in new and renewed veterinary science related programs. Willingness to undertake professional development aligned with supporting college program needs may be required;
• be expected to act as an academic advisor to students within the program and participate as an effective team leader and team member in working groups at Northern College;
• be expected to create a positive teaching/learning environment by using a variety of teaching/learning strategies and materials in a multi-delivery mode setting to facilitate student success and provide leadership in a multicultural classroom;
• be expected to ensure program relevance by designing, revising and updating curriculum and course outlines, evaluating student achievement with a variety of approaches and techniques, developing and revising appropriate learning resources and establishing communications among students and colleagues as a teacher and leader.
• participate in professional development activities at Northern College and participate effectively in program promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• Registered Veterinary Technician with the OAVT/RVTTC;
• A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Excellent knowledge of clinical and laboratory techniques;
• Proficient with the use of computers and MS Office Suite;
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment;

Asset:

• Experience in teaching considered an asset;
• Strong leadership skills, visionary capacity and commitment to positive community development considered an asset.
