DUTIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach in all years of the Police Foundations Program, as well as in other Emergency Services programs as appropriate/required. An overview of the Emergency Services programs (Police Foundations, Paramedic, Pre-Service Firefighter) and course outlines/descriptions may be obtained by reviewing the Northern College website at http://www.northernc.on.ca/.

As part of teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to:
• Act as an academic advisor to students within the program
• Participate as an effective team leader and team member in working groups at Northern College
• Create a positive teaching/learning environment
• Use a variety of teaching/learning strategies and materials in a multi-delivery mode setting to facilitate student success
• Provide leadership in a multicultural classroom
• Ensure program relevance by designing, revising and updating curriculum and course outlines
• Evaluate student achievement with a variety of approaches and techniques, develop and revise appropriate learning resources
• Establish communications among students and colleagues as a teacher and leader
• Participate in professional development activities at Northern College relevant to his/her own needs and participate effectively in program promotion and initiate/participate in ongoing research and scholarship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have:
• Relevant Training as a Police Officer and/or Security Professional;
• A Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or Education i.e.: criminology, forensics, law/law enforcement, and/or other Emergency Management fields (would be considered an asset);
• Five years of relevant professional experience in policing or teaching/training experience in the policing, emergency management, and community safety fields, including the use of technology in emerging Policing/Emergency/Disaster Management disciplines (e.g. drone technology) and use of simulation in policing/emergency services training;
• A strong network of contacts and the ability to develop/maintain relationships with community resources/agencies (preferred);
• Formal training and experience in curriculum design, instructional delivery and techniques in higher education (would be considered an asset);
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment;
• Superior working knowledge of legislative changes and standard requirements;
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Current certification in CPR and First Aid (would be considered an asset);
• The ability to work effectively with Microsoft Word (would be considered an asset);
• The ability to work effectively in Blackboard (would be considered an asset); and
• Strong leadership skills, visionary capacity and commitment to positive community development.

The successful candidate may be required to provide a criminal reference check.
