DUTIES:
Northern College is seeking a qualified professional to teach and redevelop a variety of courses in our existing Environmental Technician – Water and Wastewater Systems Operations (ETWWSO) program and in planned future environmental protection programming supporting natural resource-based industries in our region.

As part of teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to act as an academic advisor to students in the program, participate as a leader and effective team member working in groups at the college, create a positive teaching and learning environment, using a variety of strategies and materials in the multi-modal delivery of courses. The incumbent should embody a commitment to student success and professional development and demonstrate capacity for leadership in a multi-cultural organization. In addition, the successful candidate must ensure currency and relevance of the teaching material and assessment techniques, must participate in recruitment and program promotion initiatives, and participate in professional development activities at Northern College relevant to his/her own needs.

The incumbent will also help support the college’s ambitions in environmental-related practical Applied Research, and in new environmental science related programs. Willingness to undertake professional development aligned with supporting college program needs may be required;

QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent will possess the following qualifications:

Bachelor of Science, and/or
Water and wastewater industry expertise: Class I (or higher) drinking water/ wastewater operator's certificate(s);
Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in environmental sciences, and/or the water and wastewater field;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Excellent knowledge of environmental laboratory and/or monitoring techniques;
Proficient with the use of computers and MS Office Suite;
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment;
Experience in teaching considered an asset; and
Strong leadership skills, visionary capacity and commitment to positive community development considered an asset.
The incumbent may be required to provide a criminal reference check.
