Reporting to the Associate Dean of the School of Trades, this exciting role requires the successful candidate to provide an invitational learning environment to deliver courses in several programs including: Carpentry and Renovation Techniques/Technician and General Carpentry Apprenticeship.
The Professor position is responsible for providing academic leadership and developing an effective learning environment for students. The successful candidate should aspire to provide academic excellence in the learning environment, thus enabling our students to achieve success in their careers. This includes designing, revising and updating courses/curriculum; teaching assigned courses; consulting with stakeholders (faculty, community and industry partners); defining course objectives and evaluating student comprehension of objectives; utilize a variety of instruction medium /resources; and provide individualized instruction where necessary. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
A Certificate of Qualification as a Carpenter (Carpenter 403A)
A minimum of five (5) years relevant industry experience with a focus on the renovation industry
A minimum of two (2) years of Post-Secondary teaching experience
Proven willingness to contribute to a strong team environment and positive work culture
Evidence of commitment to supporting and guiding students towards their successes
Proven ability to deliver course content to a diverse student population
Advanced internal and external networking/relationship building and liaison abilities
Strong oral and written communication, organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
Preferred candidates may also possess:
Five (5) years previous teaching experience at a post-secondary level / or adult training experience
Ten (10) years relevant industry experience with a focus on the renovation industry
Experience in curriculum design and development
Practical experience with online learning software and educational database applications
Be Leads certified or experienced with Net Zero construction
Experience with Commercial Construction
In accordance with the provisions of the Academic Employees Collective Agreement first consideration shall be given to Internal employees. Internal employees are classified as Full time permanent or Partial Load staff within the Academic Bargaining Unit at the time of posting.
