Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

Professor, Animation 3D and Game Design

Mohawk College is currently building a Digital Creation cluster that includes Games Design, Animation, and XR/VR programs to meet the growing need for skilled professionals in Hamilton and the surrounding areas. As such, our Animation 3D program will be expanded to include 2D Animation as well as industry-based projects and experiential learning. It will also include common courses with Game Design thereby offering interdisciplinary experiences and collaborative work for students.

We are looking for a classical animator to lead this initiative as full time Professor and Program Coordinator of our expanded Animation program.

​The successful candidate will have experience in program development and teaching at the post-secondary level in the field of animation. Experience in coordinating a college program is preferred. The successful candidate will have 8-10 years of professional experience working in a major studio as an animator and be highly proficient in classical and 3D animation with the ability to teach both hand-drawn and digital animation.

​Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver, and revise curricula, utilizing an EDI lens, in a supportive, collaborative, and collegial environment. Faculty must be adept at innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and ages. Faculty will be expected to collaborate with colleagues in Mohawk’s Game Design, Television, and Music programs.

​Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

​Overseeing the redevelopment of the Animation program.
​Serving as coordinator for the program.
​Designing, updating, and delivering a variety of courses which uphold academic quality and adhere to college policies and procedures.
​Creating a positive, collaborative, and engaging learning environment both in the classroom and online which uphold the principles of EDI.
​Mentoring and advising students from a wide range of backgrounds.
​Providing innovative and inclusive educational delivery and experiences through the use of online educational technology and learning management systems (i.e. MyCanvas), for in-class and online delivery.
​Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies such as Experiential Learning (EL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), adaptive technology, and alternative delivery methodologies.
​Designing accessible assessment strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement.
​Working creatively and collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, staff, and students.
​Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
​Applying cooperative college values and philosophy in all work activities and interactions with other professors.
​Contribute to the transformational development of the program based on the needs of diverse game users.
​Participating in department, school, and college-wide activities/tasks as required.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

​Program development experience at the post-secondary level in the field of animation.
​Program coordinator experience at the post-secondary level in the field of animation.
​Minimum 8-10 years of experience working as an animator at a major studio.
​Minimum requirement of a 3-year diploma in Animation, or, a closely related field.
​Demonstrated skills in developing student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect.
​Proficiency in 2D animation, 3D animation, life drawing, and character design.
​Proficiency in Adobe Suite, Harmony and Maya.
​Strong working knowledge of the Animation industry in Canada, the USA, and abroad.
​Previous experience developing curriculum and learning materials for both in-person and online courses.
​Demonstrated ability to relate to learners.
​Created positive learning environments for students working at different skill levels including international students, Indigenous students, first-generation students, and students who need accommodations is an asset.
​Evidence of demonstrated application of adult learning principles, methodologies, curriculum design, and development.
​Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems to enhance learning.
​Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team, through the application of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
​Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.


Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/She/They may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach between 8:00am and 10:00pm, Monday to Friday.
