Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next

Professor, Game Design

The newly developed Advanced Diploma in Game Design – in the McKeil School of Business | School of Communication, Creative Industries & Liberal Studies at Mohawk College – is currently seeking two (2) qualified professionals to join the team as full time Professors specializing in Game Design.
Each successful candidate will have at least 3 years of professional and relevant game design industry experience as well as 2-4 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver, and revise curricula in a supportive, collaborative, and collegial environment. These courses include but are not limited to:

• Design Thinking
• Game Asset Development
• Introduction to Game Engines (Unity and Unreal)
• Puzzle Design
• User Experience
• Playtesting

Faculty must be adept at innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and ages. Faculty will be expected to collaborate with colleagues in Mohawk’s 3D Animation and XR/VR programs.

Responsibilities:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Designing, updating, and delivering a variety of courses which uphold academic quality and adhere to college politics and procedures.
• Creating a positive, collaborative, and engaging learning environment both in the classroom and online which uphold the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
• Providing innovative educational delivery and experiences through the use of online educational technology and learning management systems (i.e. MyCanvas), for in-class and online delivery.
• Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies such as Experiential Learning (EL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), adaptive technology, and alternative delivery methodologies.
• Designing appropriate assessment strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement.
• Participating in department, school, and college-wide activities/tasks as required.
• Working creatively and collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, staff, and students.
• Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
• Applying cooperative college values and philosophy in all work activities and interactions with other professors.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
• Relevant educational qualifications in Game Design, or, a closely related field. Minimum requirement: BFA or (Hons) BA. MFA preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of professional and relevant game design industry experience in the field of game design.
• Two to four years teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Cloud) Software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.).
• Proficiency with Unity, Unreal, and Godot.
• Strong working knowledge of the game design pipeline.
• Strong knowledge of game development.
• Robust understanding of Canada’s game industries, including emerging technologies and current trends.
• Previous experience developing curriculum and learning materials for both in-person and online courses.
• Demonstrated experience teaching creative content and processes, and inspiring learners who will move on to careers in gaming.
• Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels including international students, Indigenous students, first-generation students, and students requiring accommodation is an asset.
• Evidence of demonstrated application of adult learning principles, methodologies, curriculum design, and development.
• Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems to enhance learning.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team, through the application of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.

Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she/They may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach between 8:00am and 10:00pm, Monday to Friday.
