JOB SUMMARY:

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services requires a full-time professor and shared program coordinator for the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Program. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Allied Health the professor/coordinator is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Teaching a variety of courses in the program as assigned
  • Evaluating student progress and performing academic advising
  • Developing curriculum
  • Enhancing educational delivery through use of technology
  • Participating in program quality assurance activities/ accreditation responsibilities
  • Responsible for the support of the student while on clinical placement. Preparing and issuing learning contracts for the students, conversations and support for both the student and the clinical educators
  • Participating in program, divisional and college-wide recruitment and marketing activities
  • Provide program coordination and student academic advising where necessary
  • Participate in program growth initiatives through the college and with the community
  • Maintain a line of communication with Sonography Canada and CMRITO


QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will have:
  • A graduate of a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program or equivalent.
  • An undergraduate degree is required, a graduate degree is preferred
  • At least 5 years current and extensive experience in cardiac sonography. ​
  • Proof of active registration with Sonography Canada and/or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Adult Echocardiography as well as the CMRITO. Credentialing in additional subspecialties would be an asset
  • Engagement in ongoing and relevant professional development, and be able to demonstrate knowledge of current practice.
  • Current and relevant teaching experience in a post-secondary education is an asset
  • Current/relevant teaching in an online environment in post-secondary education is an asset

The successful applicant is expected to develop, deliver and revise academic curriculum in collaboration with other college professors. The ability to work as part of a team and to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills is essential. The successful applicant will have the ability to relate theoretical knowledge to practical applications to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles and ages.

Professors hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternative delivery methods. The incumbent may be assigned to teach at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach between 8:00 am and 6:30 pm Monday to Friday.
