JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of Building & Construction Sciences in the School of Engineering Technology and Aviation requires a full time Civil Engineering Technology Professor to teach in any number of courses and program areas at both the senior and junior level including, but not limited to:
• Surveying
• Geomatics
• Computer Applications in Civil Engineering
• Photogrammetry
• Aerial and Terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)
• Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The role of this position includes the following:
Creating a positive, sustainable and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
Using a variety of teaching strategies and blended learning delivery techniques most appropriate for the curriculum and students.
Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes and performing academic advising.
Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program, and participating in program quality assurance, innovation, applied research and accreditation activities.
Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of the College’s MyCanvas course delivery platform and other technology to facilitate student learning.
Applying college values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
Participating in Program, School, Faculty, and College-wide recruitment and marketing activities.
Developing and implementing a personal professional development strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have:
A three-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology required.
Minimum of five years of diverse and current experience in the following areas:
Level and total station surveying
Aerial and terrestrial LiDAR
Photogrammetry
Pix4D and MicroStation software
RPAS advanced operations certificate and flight reviewer status
Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or experience is required.
Experience with applied research at an Ontario College is desirable.
Experience with a Learning Management System is desirable.
Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
The successful candidate will have engaged in ongoing and relevant professional development, and be able to demonstrate knowledge of current technologies and applications. The successful candidate must have an ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages. The ability to work as a part of a team and demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus. Since many programs run on a year-round basis, teaching during the spring/summer months will be required. The successful applicant will also be required to attend the College Educator Development Program (CEDP).
