​JOB SUMMARY:​

The Department of Liberal Studies in the McKeil School of Business | School of Communications, Creative Industries, & Liberal Studies is currently seeking a qualified professional to join the Liberal Studies team as a Professor. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the Professor is responsible for the delivery of curriculum, development of an effective learning environment for students, and academic leadership.

​The successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver and revise curricula in collaboration with other College departments, such as Indigenous Education and the Indigenous Education Council to support development of programming that reflects Indigenous knowledge, context, and worldviews.

The successful candidate may be required to develop and teach a variety of courses, ranging from dual credit delivery (high school) to degree level programming.

All candidates selected for an interview will be required to present on a topic related to the position during the interview process.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Fosters sustainable practices for indigenization of programming including development of land-based and/or intergenerational and/or multimodal learning activities appropriate to a course or program.
Designing, updating, and delivering a variety of courses.
Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs which uphold academic quality, college policies, and procedures.
Creating a positive and engaging learning environment both in the classroom and online which uphold the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies such as Experiential Learning (EL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), adaptive technology, alternative delivery methodologies.
Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement.
Potential to assist in collaborative research and lead focus groups to advance indigenization of program delivery including, delivery of presentations and/or documents to inform learning and knowledge.
Participate in department, school, and college-wide activities/tasks as required.
Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college to ensure quality program delivery and student experiences.


​QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have:

A Master’s Level Graduate degree or equivalent, in a related discipline (i.e. – Education, Indigenous Studies).
Experience applying Indigenous pedagogy and epistemologies.
Experience supporting the integration of Indigenous pedagogy and practices into curriculum.
​Three to five years of previous adult or post-secondary level teaching experience, including both classroom and online environments.
Relate theoretical knowledge to practical applications to provide a meaningful and innovative learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and ages through innovative delivery methods.
Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels including international students, Indigenous students, first-generation students, and students requiring accommodation is an asset.
Evidence of demonstrated application of adult learning principles, methodologies, curriculum design, and development.
Knowledge and experience with computer systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g. Canvas).
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team, through the application of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
Working closely with stakeholders across the institution to assist in building capacity in indigenous ways of knowing. Applying curriculum processes while, adhering to standards that promote quality and innovation.
An ethical engagement within Indigenous communities with reference letters and supporting documentation communicating their relationship(s). Engagement will include but not be limited to understanding the importance of consensus-building relationships.
Lived experience in either First Nations, Metis, or Inuit communities.


The faculty member will consult with Mohawk College’s Indigenous Education Council, Elders, and Indigenous students to build a safe learning environment that respects Indigenous cultures and identities.

Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach between 8:00am and 10:00pm, Monday to Friday.
