Job Details

Position Title: Professor, Fire Services & Pre-Service Firefighter
Status: Full-Time
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness
Campus/Location: North Campus
Salary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.


What you will do:

The successful candidate will be required to teach a variety of courses in the fire services education programs (Pre-Service Firefighting Education and Training certificate program and Fire Services diploma program) at the North campus. Subject areas may include fire prevention, public education, fire science, firefighter skills, and hazardous materials, among others.

The incumbent will teach, develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees and related associations.

The incumbent will also support student advising, student recruitment, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and develop and maintain strong industry ties.

What you bring to the role:

The successful candidate will have a relevant undergraduate degree (preference given to graduate degrees) and be an experienced fire service personnel for a minimum of five years. Preference will be given to candidates who hold certifications in NFPA1001 Level I & II or equivalent, NFPA1031 (Fire Prevention), NFPA1041 Level I & II (Instructor), and NFPA1035 (Public Educator).

In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate will possess well developed interpersonal communication and problem solving skills and have demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery.
