What This Position is About:
Two exciting Faculty opportunities within the Trent University / Fleming College School of Nursing!

These full-time teaching opportunities are in the Collaborative Bachelor of Science, Nursing Program (BScN), a unique joint program offered in partnership with Fleming College and Trent University. As a full-time professor in The School of Health &Wellness, BScN Program, you will play a key role by demonstrating teaching excellence through proven adaptability with diverse learners, and the creation of a learning environment that motivates and engages learners, using a variety of teaching methodologies and types of delivery. Faculty teach in teams and deliver curriculum in a variety of ways, including lectures, seminars, skill labs and clinical placements.

The successful incumbent will be hired as full-time Faculty with the Fleming College School of Health & Wellness and appointed to the Trent / Fleming School of Nursing Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. In the fourth year of appointment to the Trent / Fleming School of Nursing, faculty will apply for renewal of their appointment. This will only be done once by each faculty member. What We Are Looking For:

An appointment to the Trent/Fleming BScN program requires a Master’s Degree with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Where the qualifications exceed a Master’s Degree, preference will be given in the following order:

i) applicants possessing an earned doctoral degree in nursing;
ii) applicants with a doctoral degree in another discipline with nursing relevant research with a graduate degree in nursing, completed or in process
iii) applicants with a doctoral degree in nursing in process (demonstrating continuous study and nearing completion);
iv) applicants with a graduate degree in nursing completed or a graduate degree in a related discipline completed with a baccalaureate degree in nursing, completed.

In addition to the above educational qualifications, you must possess current expertise in the acute care setting, aging, or Indigenous health areas with demonstrated recent experience in clinical nursing, teaching and activities of scholarly work also being a requirement. Candidates must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and maintain a current registration with the College of Nurses (CNO) of Ontario in good standing.

As a bona fide occupational requirement, and under Section 24(1) (a) of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the College will be giving preference to one of the Faculty positions for applicants who identify as being of Indigenous heritage (including First Nation (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of Indigenous history, cultures, traditions and spirituality including an understanding of the historical and current relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canada. You understand and appreciate the importance of culturally appropriate protocols for Indigenous communities and peoples and are knowledgeable about blended delivery and use of both Indigenous and Western pedagogies.

These roles also require self-motivation, flexibility and a passion for learning and student success. You will focus on enhancing the student experience by creating a rich and open learning environment that embraces inclusion and diversity. You have the ability to work independently and in a team-teaching environment and demonstrate the drive to continuously learn and achieve results.

You will work in a team environment and develop/deliver curriculum using a variety of teaching methodologies. These may include lectures, seminars, labs, field trips, work placements, simulation, interprofessional educational experiences, or other innovative delivery methods. Experience in an e-learning environment is a definite asset.

Strong leadership abilities, including conflict resolution and change management skills, coupled with exceptional administrative abilities are required to help you excel in these positions. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as highly developed critical thinking/problem solving, and organizational/time management skills are required. You are proficient working with a variety of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet search, and web applications.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning as a dual professional (teaching and industry expert), fostering relationships and connections while providing accessible, superior service to students.

Stage 2:
Human Resources will email those candidates selected to interview with a link to the location of a personal, confidential electronic file folder set up for them to submit the three-part pre-interview assignment described below. Candidates will be given a two-week turnaround time to submit these documents.

Part A - A three-to-four page summary of related experience, (teaching and professional), including scholarly activities. Part B - Evidence of teaching effectiveness which may include proof of favourable teaching capabilities, effective communication of course materials, positive student-faculty interaction, and contributions to curriculum development

Part C - Current self-assessment against the CNO Professional Standards – highlighting clinical expertise as well as other dimensions in the “role of educator”. This reflection/self-assessment should include evidence of currency of knowledge and knowledge application. During the interview, candidates will be required to deliver a teaching demonstration.
