What This Position is About:
As a member of the Forestry and Arboriculture program team, you are part of a close-knit community training the next generation of arborists and foresters who will manage our trees and forests.

In the 3 semester Arboriculture program, our students acquire the theoretical knowledge for all aspects of urban tree care, as well as such practical skills as safe tree climbing techniques, aerial rescue, pruning techniques, tree removal, power line clearing, and the operation and maintenance of relevant equipment

What We Are Looking For:
You possess a minimum of a college certificate or diploma in arboriculture, are an Ontario certified utility arborist with a minimum of 2 years of recent experience with electrical utilities and have progressive industry experience (minimum 5 years). It would be advantageous to also hold a college diploma or university degree in forestry or urban forestry, hold additional related accreditations including ISA certifications, TRAQ certification, WSN Chainsaw Trainer, and DZ driver’s license, as well as have experience with relevant technology such as GIS, GPS, and tomography.

You have extensive applied field expertise in areas such as tree climbing, use of arborist equipment and tools including bucket trucks, wood chippers and stump grinders as well as maintenance and repair of small and large equipment. You actively research and keep abreast of current issues and trends related to the arboriculture industry including legislation, regulations, and liability. This is complemented by up-to-date knowledge and experience with tree maintenance and care practices, pest management and applicable treatments. This position can be physically demanding as you will be assigned to field experiences in a variety of weather conditions and you must be able to demonstrate activities such as advanced tree climbing, tree removal, line clearing and equipment use.

This role requires a keen eye for safety and safe operating procedures. You have demonstrated, in a team environment, leadership and organizational skills in developing and delivering safe and effective field work experiences including: safety training, equipment handling, worksite supervision and related skill development.

You have an established industry network that could provide opportunities for our students and graduates and opportunities for the college in continuing and contract training opportunities.

You will be required to be self-motivated, flexible and have a passion for learning and student success. You will focus on enhancing the student experience by creating a rich and open learning environment that embraces diversity and providing superior service to students. You are able to apply theories of adult learning and teaching and can contribute to curriculum and program development.

You are able to work independently and as part of a team and can effectively contribute to multidisciplinary teams utilizing your strong leadership skills. Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as interpersonal and critical thinking/problem solving skills are required. You are comfortable working with technology, including blended learning technologies, and are self-sufficient with word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, e-mail, internet search, web applications. Experience with applied research activities are an asset.
