As a key member of the School of Health & Wellness, you will play a pivotal role by demonstrating teaching excellence through proven adaptability with diverse learners, and the creation of a learning environment that motivates and engages learners, using a variety of teaching methodologies and types of delivery.
During the five semesters of the Practical Nursing program, through the use of simulation and interprofessional educational approaches, our students learn the concepts and skills related to health and nursing. After successfully completing, graduates are eligible to write the national examinations with the College of Nurses of Ontario and become registered to practice in Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse. The School of Health and Wellness is a member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing due to the quality of our Practical Nursing program which holds a Category 1 Approval from the College of Nurses of Ontario. In addition, the practical Nursing program has strong links with Peterborough and the surrounding community's health care facilities and organizations, ensuring students have excellent clinical opportunities to explore various aspects of nursing. Employers in the health care field have recognized Fleming's Practical Nursing program as an excellent program, producing knowledgeable and clinically well-prepared graduates.

The increasing need for qualified Indigenous nurses in Canada has necessitated the need for nursing program faculty who are culturally competent and can provide Indigenous specific support and encouragement for nursing students. As students in the Practical Nursing program have the option to complete their studies with an Indigenous Perspectives Designation, the need for Indigenous nursing content experts in our school is important to ensure we create and maintain strong links with local communities and Indigenous Knowledge holders.

What We Are Looking For:
As a bona fide occupational requirement, and under Section 24(1) (a) of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the College will be giving preference to applicants who identify as being of Indigenous heritage (including First Nation (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of Indigenous history, cultures, traditions and spirituality including an understanding of the historical and current relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canada. You understand and appreciate the importance of culturally appropriate protocols for Indigenous peoples and are knowledgeable of the holistic, visual, and collaborative pedagogy required to help Indigenous students achieve success.
You possess a relevant combination of education and experience with a Master’s Degree in Nursing being required and current experience in a clinical nursing setting and a teaching environment also being required. You must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and also a member of the Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association (CINA). In addition, current evidence of ongoing and continuous professional development in nursing is required.
You have a natural ability to role model effective motivational skills and have demonstrated knowledge. Experience in developing/delivering educational materials in alternative formats is a definite asset with preference being given to candidates with teaching, curriculum design and development experience at the post-secondary level.
This role will require a passion for learning and student success. You have the drive to continuously learn and achieve results. You will focus on enhancing the student experience by creating a rich and open learning environment that embraces diversity and provides superior service to students. You are able to apply theories of adult learning and teaching, utilize innovative delivery methods and contribute to curriculum and program development. You are able to work independently and as part of a team and can effectively contribute to multidisciplinary teams utilizing your strong leadership skills. Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as interpersonal and critical thinking/problem solving skills are required.
You have expertise using a wide range of nursing and nursing education related technology/equipment. You are comfortable working with technology, including blended learning technologies, and are self-sufficient with MS Office tools, presentation software, e-mail, calendar, and web applications.
