The School of Justice & Emergency Services requires 2 Full-time Professors in the Paralegal and Law Clerk Advanced programs

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. The School of Justice & Emergency Services requires a full-time professor to teach courses in the Paralegal (diploma and graduate certificate) and Law Clerk Advanced programs.

Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The responsibilities of Durham College Professors include, but are not limited to:
1. Creating a positive learning environment that accommodate students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles;
2. Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
3. Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
4. Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
5. Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
6. Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
7. Working effectively with students, the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
1. Must possess a Honours Bachelor degree as well as a Graduate degree (M.A. or M.Ed.), and/or a law degree. A relevant PhD would be considered an asset;
2. Must be a licensee of the Law Society of Ontario.
3. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work/teaching experience;
4. A well-documented track record (Student Feedback Questionnaires, Classroom Observations, Testimonials) of successfully delivering base level to high level of Paralegal and/or Law Clerk program curriculum, through a variety of modes;
5. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
6. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
7. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset;
8. Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills;
9. Proven track record of life-long learning;
10. Excellent organizational and time management skills;
11. Strong track record in meeting deadlines;
12. Self-motivated and independent worker who also functions well in a team environment;
13. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, other faculty members, support staff, administrators, other departments within the College and community stakeholders;
14. Understanding of the Ontario community college system.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proven track record of relevant work/teaching experience.

Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a 20-minute teaching demonstration. Details will be provided when interviews are scheduled.
