Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Design, and Entrepreneurship, the Chair of the Entrepreneurship Academy provides academic and administrative leadership, supervision, and direction to faculty, staff, and students within the Academy. In this role, the Chair oversees key functions such as academic planning, curriculum development, program review, and the implementation of necessary changes to ensure that programs are tailored to meet the needs of students and industry demands while aligning with the College's overall vision and goals. By working closely with relevant collaborators, the Chair plays a vital role in guiding the Academy's strategic direction and growth, particularly in academic and business development.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with the Academic Leadership Team to provide leadership to the Academy’s business planning process and be instrumental in the Academy attaining its overall vision as articulated by the Dean
• Provide academic leadership and direction to the Entrepreneurship Academy staff in developing, delivering and evaluating courses and programs offered
• Implement initiatives established by the College and government authorities as they relate to the Entrepreneurship Academy, including College strategic plans and requirements of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development
• Establish and maintain positive, ongoing relationships with appropriate industry and business representatives, advisory committee members, professional associations, and alumni
• Supervise all full and part-time Faculty and Coordinators for the Entrepreneurship Academy and support staff assigned to the schools.
• Develop and negotiate articulation agreements with outside parties of interest with the support of the College.
• Identify, develop, and negotiate opportunities with the support of the Dean that may include other sources of revenue
• Coordinate with Corporate Training to ensure consistency of programs and courses
• Work with the Dean and other internal colleagues to develop marketing initiatives and strategic alliances with external partners
• Develop recommendations for enrolment targets and budget, monitors and directs the activity for the Academy and reports on activity to the Dean
• Responsible for the effective use of School human, physical and financial resources; works collaboratively to establish work plans and timelines for strategic projects, operational projects and administration of activities of non-full-time staff
• Recruit, hire, and supervise all full and non-full-time faculty for all Entrepreneurship Academy programs
• Responsible for overall program development, planning and implementation and provides academic leadership for new curriculum for the Entrepreneurship Academy
• Conduct first-level investigations and initiates the problem-solving process of disputes, including faculty, staff and students using College policies and procedures
• Work with faculty to manage relationships with industry partners and professional associations and provides leadership in organizing meetings and developing a work plan for the Program Advisory Committee and other meetings with Ministry representatives and professional association representatives
• Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in business or related field; Doctorate (Ph.D.) preferred
• Administrative experience with management responsibility, including project/operational management, organizational development, budget, and human resources functions, e.g., hiring and termination, and time management
• Experience in a Business discipline with demonstrated success in leading and managing a large, complex organization, with a preference for experience in a post-secondary environment
• Knowledge of one or more sectors in the Entrepreneurship Academy is required, as well as solid project management change management skills
• Effective leadership, management, coaching and team-building skills
• Experience in adult education and group facilitation and or education is required
• Problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills and a proven ability to build effective and respectful working relationships are essential
• Excellent judgment, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and workplace technology
• Prior experience working in a unionized environment
• Ability to establish alliances in related occupational communities and foster a collegial, collaborative environment
• Demonstrated leadership in delivering excellent service to others, as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
• Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experiences and styles
• Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes
• Must be able to reliably commute to North Bay, ON
