Job Description:

As part of the Academic Development department, the Learning and Teaching Services unit of Algonquin College provides curriculum leadership and support for the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of courses across the College. Learning and Teaching Services provides educational leadership in the development and delivery of innovative and evidence-based approaches to teaching excellence and quality student learning. Working as a member of the Learning and Teaching Services team, the Professor, Curriculum Consultant supports course development across the College through the planning, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases.

This job requires occasional or regular onsite work in accordance with Policy HS 16.

Duties and Responsibilities

Guiding and assisting academic staff as they plan, develop, implement, review and modify courses;

Consulting, coaching, and guiding academic staff in relation to a range of teaching, learning, and curriculum issues;

Supporting faculty to implement quality courses that effectively integrate technology;

Recommending and providing resources and tools to support course development, teaching practice, and technology integration;

Contributing curriculum and teaching-learning expertise to College committees and projects;

Contributing to provincial and regional projects/activities related to teaching and learning;

Remaining current in the field of study and maintain awareness of emerging trends and practices related to teaching and learning in higher education;

Building institutional capacity in all aspects of course development and implementation through coaching, providing professional development, and sharing support tools and materials;

Planning, delivering, and evaluating workshops and courses related to curriculum for faculty and other stakeholders;

Being the point of contact for faculty, coordinators, chairs, and deans within an academic portfolio;

Modeling the College values of Caring, Learning, Integrity, and Respect.

Sound knowledge of current learning theory and practice as well as experience using a wide range of teaching and learning strategies;

Sound knowledge of curriculum theory and practice with demonstrated skill working with curriculum in a variety of delivery modes;

Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies in a postsecondary setting;

Excellent knowledge and experience with a variety of assessment techniques;

Demonstrated skill in Algonquin College’s preferred teaching competencies as set out in the Professor of the 21st Century document: http://www.algonquincollege.com/profres/ ;

Evidence of commitment to the success of all learners.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a Master’s degree in Education or a related field of study; doctoral degree is considered an asset;

Minimum of seven (7) years of teaching experience, or equivalent, preferably in a postsecondary setting;

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in course curriculum development; experience working within the Ontario Qualifications Framework an asset;

Demonstrated experience with supporting and leading course revisions for continuous improvement

Demonstrated experience with revising curriculum to ensure quality assurance

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of educational technologies; experience in the development and delivery of hybrid and online curriculum is considered an asset;

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of research in pedagogy/andragogy;

Experience in working in a Teaching and Learning Centre;

Highly effective communication, presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills;

Ability to participate in consultative decision-making processes;

Ability to work in a team environment;

Sound knowledge of current learning theory and practice as well as experience using a wide range of teaching and learning strategies;

Sound knowledge of curriculum theory and practice with demonstrated skill working with curriculum in a variety of delivery modes;

Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies in a postsecondary setting;

Salary range is $66,555 to $115,378 per annum, established in terms of relevant educational qualifications and experience.
